I installed Ubuntu 12.04 onto my old Pentium 4 2.4Ghz / 512MB / 40GB / Intel 82845GL. It works now as web-, mail-, videochat-, and cloud-server ... all together.
But also I had a problem with crazy performance with videocard. So I decided to play CS 1.6 , and I had to fix this problem because FPS was 5.
So how I fixed that.
First, I fixed video. 1. I login in 2D 2. I set 800x600 3. I set no background image 4. I do apt-get upgrade
Second, I install game.
5. Copy cstrike folder to Ubuntu 12.04 6. Install Wine Windows Program Loader 7. Install PlayOnLinux 8. Click Right Mouse Button on cstrike.exe 9. "Open With Wine Windows Program Loader"
P.S. : Now FPS is crazy high for such an old computer = 20 FPS P.P.S. : Upgrade helped to get my Ubuntu turned off after I shut it down. Because before upgrade it wasn't auto shutdown. Fans were moving, lamps were lighting. Now is okay! Wow! I go to play CS 1.6 --- soon I'll try CS: Source and/or Half-Life : Source / Deathmath >:)
